Tanzania!

Our first blog entry…ever!

So, I guess we should start with a little introduction…

Audrey, a fiery southern redhead from Louisville, KY came to Durham, NC to start her nursing career working in Duke University hospital’s pediatric bone marrow transplant unit.  Emily, fearless & fun-lovin’ brunette moved from Orlando, FL to Durham to work in the neonatal ICU that same summer of 2008.

“Em and Aud” met that first day of graduate school and soon after discovered their similar passion in faith, in life, and for serving those in need. Over the next 2 years their friendship grew like a wild flower and planning for international experience in medicine began. After some ups and downs, here we are today, packing like mad and leaving tomorrow for Tanzania!

In collaboration with Duke University’s Global Health Department we will be working at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center (www.kcmc.ac.tz)- one of the best hospitals in eastern Africa. Here we will have the opportunity to work with local and international physicians and care for every type of child- from those with HIV/AIDS to ear infections and well children. It is our hope during this time we will gain a better understanding of how to serve and care for the people of Tanzania in body, mind and spirit. 

As we embark on this journey we leave with our hands open, hearts willing, and boots broken-in.  We hope through this blog you are able to join us in the adventure of Africa, the love of people, and a deeper knowledge of faith.

As for the blog, we will try to be witty, honest and grammatically correct (ha!) as we document this experience... no promises though.
